Wild Wangdi Sativa from PuRa Seeds is an exceptionally rare Himalayan landrace, exclusively available through PuRa Seeds. The original seeds were collected during our travels in Bhutan and first used as the mother line in the White Bhutanese hybrid (Mandala Seeds). Now, you can grow the pure Sativa directly sourced from the Wangdi Valley, just one generation removed from its natural habitat.

The extreme isolation of Bhutan with its 7000-7500 m (24,000 ft) mountain ranges has led to the development of distinct genetic lines of cannabis sativa. It’s very seldom that a completely new genetic pool of cannabis sativa becomes available on the market. This Bhutanese strain, which has never been domesticated or hybridized, therefore holds a special interest for breeders and collectors.

Wangdi Valley, located in central Bhutan at 27°N, is known for its lush landscapes and diverse micro-climates. The valley’s elevation (800-2500 m/2600-8200 ft) ranges from subtropical lowlands to cooler highlands with occasional frosty nights. Ample monsoon rains from June to September support the lush vegetation. Wild Wangdi Sativa thrives along mountainsides, paths, and streams, growing in hard-to-access areas. We trekked into remote areas and explored steep slopes plunging down ravines to collect the best seed stock. The Bhutanese cannabis strains have small flowering bracts that quickly eject their seeds as soon as they ripen. This is a survival trait that ensures rapid dissemination of seeds. But it also makes collection in the wild challenging because even the slightest breeze will disperse the seeds into the soil.

Surprisingly, Bhutan's extensive tradition of natural medicine does not incorporate the use of marijuana. Moreover, there is no domestic cultivation or agricultural use of cannabis sativa in Bhutan, except for the use of seeded plants as pig fodder. Therefore, THC-rich strains mainly adapt to survival in the wild, focusing less on producing large buds and abundant resin. Wild Wangdi Sativa is a very resilient plant with unexplored genetics. We believe it has the potential to create unique hybrids, as evidenced by White Bhutanese and other crosses that we have experimented with.

By crossbreeding with contemporary cannabis strains, it’s possible to enhance yield and resin production and adapt the genetics for indoor cultivation. Incorporating the Bhutanese landrace into a hybrid can offer higher resistance to pests, mold, and cold temperatures, improved nutrient efficiency, shorter flowering time, and an unexplored terpene and cannabinoid profile.

Wild Wangdi Sativa can be easily germinated in seedling soil. Soaking the seeds and other pre-germination methods are not recommended. This is a wild strain that does not flourish under artificial light. However, seeds can be started indoor under white 200W LED or 400W HPS lamps and moved outside after 2 weeks (ensure that daylight hours match the indoor cycle to prevent early flowering).

This beginner friendly strain grows medium-sized with a central cola in containers, and prefers low-to-moderate feeding in quality potting soil if at all necessary. The economical size of the plants allows container cultivation in close rows in a sea of green style. To maximize yield, Wild Wangdi Sativa should be planted in the ground from April-May (northern hemisphere) where it can extend to its full size. It can be cultivated in warm-temperate, Mediterranean, and northern climates (USDA zones 5-8).

Wild Wangdi Sativa is a stealthy, low-odor plant that reveals citrus, nutty, and earthy-hashy aromas when its resin is rubbed. The smoke provides a clear, uplifting high with no anxiety or racy heart, ideal for those sensitive to commercial Sativa’s. Users with high THC tolerance can explore concentrates (hash oil, BHO, rosin, etc) or hybridization for greater potency.

With environmental pressures and eradication programs threatening landrace strains, even in remote regions such as Bhutan, Wild Wangdi Sativa offers a unique opportunity to preserve this authentic Bhutanese strain, contributing to the strain's conservation for future generations.
