Description

Gulistan #1 is a selected Indica landrace from Sehgi village in Gulistan, northern Balochistan, Pakistan, close to the Afghan border. Originating from large traditional field populations with Afghan Indica heritage, #1 was selected by Sovereign Farmers for its impressive flower development, resin production, resilience and striking red colors.

This selection grows tall and develops large, stacked flower structures covered with prominent resin glands. As the flowers mature, beautiful red hues add another distinctive feature to the plant. Even under the extremely dry conditions of its native environment, the resin remains abundant and brilliant, sparkling across the flowers in the intense mountain sunlight.

Resilience is one of Gulistan #1's strongest qualities. Water is scarce in this region, yet these plants continue to develop substantial flowers and heavy resin under demanding field conditions. The dry appearance of the mature plants reflects the harsh environment in which this population has been cultivated and selected.

The aroma is powerful and highly distinctive. Sweet candy and fruity notes lead the profile, followed by an oily sesame-seed aroma that adds a slightly bitter finish. This unusual combination of sweet fruit, candy and sesame gives Gulistan #1 a memorable terpene signature.

Plants are traditionally sown in May, with harvest beginning around late October and continuing into mid-November in their native environment.

Gulistan lies at approximately 1,500 metres elevation in the rugged mountains and valleys of northern Balochistan. The climate is semi-arid, with dry conditions and considerable temperature fluctuations associated with the elevation and continental location. These demanding conditions form the native environment in which the Gulistan population has been cultivated and selected.

According to Sovereign Farmers, the extensive cannabis cultivation found around Gulistan is closely connected with Afghan farmers who settled in Balochistan and continued their traditional cannabis cultivation. The resulting populations carry Afghan Indica heritage while being cultivated on the Pakistani side of the border.

Gulistan #1 combines tall, vigorous growth with large stacked flowers, abundant resin, beautiful red coloration and impressive drought resilience. Its powerful candy-fruit-and-sesame aroma adds another unusual trait to a distinctive Afghan Indica selection from northern Balochistan.
