Mexicoatl from PuRa Seeds is a resilient Mexican Sativa, originally cultivated on farmland owned by a traditional Mixtec healer (curandero) in the highlands of Puebla. The Mixtec, who refer to themselves as the Ñuu Savi, or "People of the Rain," are the third-largest indigenous group in Mexico. In Mixtec culture, healers or shamans play a central role, offering herbal remedies derived from local plants. Cannabis sativa, also known as “Santa Rosa”, is associated with a female deity that facilitates healing and communication with the spirit world. This is an exciting opportunity for Sativa enthusiasts to grow a fantastic high-quality heirloom strain imbued with the blessings of its traditional use.

The Puebla region features a subtropical highland climate (Cwb) with temperatures typically ranging from 20-27°C (68-80°F) and with cool nights at higher elevations. The rainy season stretches from mid-May to early October, bringing heavy afternoon showers with a dry spell in August. Summers can be very hot, especially with climate change causing increasing heat waves. Agriculture has long been a way of life for Mixtec families, though the poor soil quality and erratic rains make farming difficult. As a result, many farmers have turned to cannabis cultivation as an alternative source of income.

Mexicoatl has adapted exceptionally well to the challenging conditions, showing remarkable resistance to heat, wind, drought, and other environmental stresses. It thrives with minimal care and has lower nutrient requirements than modern hybrids. This robust Sativa is a valuable heirloom cannabis strain for breeding projects - offering strength, vigour, and an uplifting cerebral high.

Mexicoatl is easy to grow even if you are a beginner. Indoor the plants are medium-tall and can be pruned if necessary. A shorter growth cycle of 3 weeks also controls height in smaller grow tents. Similar to most heirloom Sativa's, it responds well to a SCROG setup. It thrives under white LED (200W or more recommended) and 400-600W HPS lamps. During flowering, high lumens per m2 is best to maximize production. It’s possible to cultivate in high-quality potting soil and 8-10L (2+ gallon) containers without additional feedings, provided the plants are not root-bound early in their life cycle. 

Outdoor plants prefer low-to-moderate feedings when grown in containers. This Mexican cannabis strain can be cultivated in hot-dry, warm-temperate, Mediterranean, tropical regions, and in USDA zones 6a-12 (up to New York state). Further north a greenhouse is recommended. 

In Europe cultivation without greenhouse is possible up to central France, the Balkan region and other central European countries, and further north in areas with a warmer micro-climate. Due to global warming, possible cultivation zones are rapidly extending from year to year.

Mexicoatl has a generous resin output with buds covered in trichomes throughout the plant. The high calyx-leaf ratio and open structure contribute to mold resistance and enhance the quality of your harvest.
